Around five billion aluminium drink cans are sold in the UK every year, and they can all be recycled over and over again. Simply give them a quick rinse and drop them in the can bank. It’s not necessary to remove labels for recycling; the high temperature metal processing deals easily with contamination.
Steel (or “tin”) cans are just as easy to recycle – so your baked bean can could be turned into a new car in no time! Just give it a quick rinse and pop it in the bank. And, since steel cans are easily sorted from aluminium ones by electro-magnets, they can go in the same recycling bank. You can also recycle empty aerosol/spray cans.
Cans can make money!
Did you know that empty aluminium drink cans are worth money too? A local worthy cause or school can earn money through recycling aluminium cans. To find out more go to: www.alupro.org.uk
Remember never try to recycle full
cans, or cans containing paint or hazardous waste, unless instructed.
